Protect and monetize your WORK and CREATIVITY!
Copyright
As soon as you reduce your creativity to a “tangible medium of expression” (put brush to canvas, snap a photo, write up a blog) you have copyright rights! Unless someone paid you to do it .. perhaps! (don’t give up your rights without understanding them. Let’s talk.). You have MANY rights here. The right to reproduce the work, perform the play, create a sequel (a derivative work), among others. Your work and creativity has value. Let me help you protect and monetize it!
Protect
Single Author - $299
For a single author of a work not made for hire federal copyright registrations for many types of works can be made for $299 plus fees.
“Blogs, etc.” - $349/qtr
The Copyright Office provides for a more convenient way for you to “register as you go,” so to speak. This will work for blogs, social media entries, etc. which are more than 50 words long, written by the same author, NOT made for hire, and written within the same three month period.
Music Album - $349
This is a newer option. This is for an album of two to 20 works included on one album. There are separate processes for registering the music and lyrics (if applicable), or registering the sound recordings. MUCH more convenient than doing individual registrations!
Do you have to do this? No. As mentioned above, you have rights already. However, rights, whether registered or not, are about monetizing or controlling the use of your creative output. Federal copyright registration, if done in a timely manner, provides for tremendous benefits. Not the least of which is that you needn’t show that an infringer, someone using your property without permission, made ANY MONEY AT ALL in order to be awarded damages for the infringement! Let’s strategize about your situation and how to go about securing your rights! If you need to sue for infringement this must be done anyway before the suit can begin! 17 U.S. Code § 411
Once you have your registration consider the benefits of US CBP recordation! Help stop bootleg and pirated material from entering the USA!
Monetize
For YOUR definition of monetize. It’s not always about the money; sometimes it’s about influencing the lifecycle and use of your creative output. Either way this is something to think about early. We can set up a time to chat about your strategy for making the most of your work and creativity!
WHAT YOU PRODUCE IS VALUABLE! DON’T MISS AN OPPORTUNITY!
Recordation - $199
This is not Registration. This is recording any change to your existing copyright registration. The simple example is a sale. For $199 plus fees the updates will be recorded with the Copyright Office. Depending on the contract it is not uncommon for this to be paid by the buyer.
Note: this is NOT the same as recordation with the US CBP.
Creative Commons - $97
This is a consultation about using Creative Commons licenses. If you want to share your work but want credit for it and to control the uses others might put it to Creative Commons licenses are for you! Once you know how they work and what you want to do with them you will likely be able to do this all yourself! (but I’m always here to help!) Go ahead — schedule some time!
Licensing
This is an enormous area of creativity, business, and the law. Licensing is a species of contract law and there are very flexible possibilities. History repeats time and again the tragic story of an artist who is paid pennies for work that becomes profoundly valuable. Proper licensing is intended to keep you OUT of that particularly tragic history! Lets set up some time to strategize!
